Tonight I had a call. A very special call. A call that changed the rest of my evening.

"Hi, this is Charlene ______."
"Hi, may I speak with Mr. _____ please?"
"May I ask who's calling?"
"My name's Ashley, I'm calling on behalf of the Florida Institute of Technology."
"Ugh," she began, already starting to sound like an overgrown valley girl. "Do you know what time it is?"
I check the callback screen so I can see what time it is in Florida. "8:18?"
"Yuh! Don't you have a life? I do. Goodbye!" she finished brightly. Nice lady.

All the air went out of me like I'd been punched in the chest. It was almost as if she knew exactly what to say. I felt like it was my first night here. I never wanted to feel that way again.

I was speechless for several seconds after she hung up. Considering how I feel about my job, that was the most demoralizing and horrifyingly rude thing she could have said. It was the most disrespectful and insulting thing I've ever heard at this job.

If I were to describe how I feel right now I'd certainly win an award for the most gratuitous use of the word 'Belgium' in a journal entry.
