xenologer: (mad world)
Well, this weekend we tried to replace the power jack in the computer, and once we'd done so (after my friend and his father in law had spent about five hours fiddling with it) we found that, yes, the problem really IS in the motherboard.

So it turns out that Dell 5150's are so widely-acknowledged as a huge pain in the ass when it comes to their power everything that there was a class action lawsuit last year.

The warranty for that laptop has been extended until September of this year, and the silly thing should be fixed in a little over a week. They're even replacing the little rubber feet on the bottom, and why not? I'm not paying for it!

So that should be getting fixed relatively soon, along with anything else the depot people can think to repair or replace. I guess they're going to check over the whole thing and fix whatever seems to need it.

That's the latest episode of Super Epic Laptop Repair.

I seriously, like, owe Damian my firstborn child or something. He found out about this while he was pricing replacement motherboards for me. Super fucking chouette.
