Veggie blessings...
Oct. 6th, 2007 01:49 pmI found a Universalist Unitarian church about two blocks down from me on my street, which I'd never known was there! It was great. They have a walking labyrinth for the dirt-worshippers like me, and even a community garden! There are more tomatoes in this garden than I've ever seen in one place in my whole life. About a 10x10 span of cherry tomatoes (not to mention the fact that they ARE the undergrowth through the whole REST OF THE GARDEN), five or more beefsteak tomato plants, a few kinds of tomato I couldn't identify, and even green peppers.
I was especially excited about the garden because I went inside and was told that nobody does anything with it once fall starts and all the kids go to school so the vegetables are all up for grabs! I was told to take some, so I did. I don't particularly like eating tomatoes, but Beth is a veggie maniac, and Abbie likes to eat lots of things, so I took off my blazer and filled it with tomatoes to carry home.
Beth and I are probably going back tomorrow to check on the cherry tomatoes, since yesterday evening they were yellow. If we give them another day or so, they might be ready to take home!
So fun things are happening. Tomatoes.
