Random geeky hijinks!
May. 31st, 2008 05:59 amThe IMA had a free showing of the Fifth Element today, and I got a call from mah girl Kat while she was en route asking if I wanted to go. Well, seeing as I'm more or less alone for the weekend and had resigned myself to being a shut-in for the next couple of days... I said hell yes.
Like most gatherings with Kat and Ian, there were plenty of other nerds that I didn't know at all. But y'know how it goes. Nerds are modular, and that means you can more or less exchange them all around and they'll get along just fine. We hung out at Steak & Shake for a few hours during a monstrous storm, and exchanged LJ info. I'll have to add the whole list of them tomorrow.
When we got home, I offered Kat and Ian a place to crash in case their part of town didn't have power. Our house has power, but the basement had begun to flood. Pools of water spreading out from the basement walls. Shit! Thankfully I had awesome backup and the only things sitting near walls were in tubs anyway (thanks to my childhood in Maine, land of the seasonal basement lake). We got things up off the floor, and I took the Shop-Vac to the wonderful little carpet pools.
Now Kat's down there with Ian on the loveseat upstairs. Tomorrow I'll hit the basement carpets with the Shop-Vac again, and set a fan down there so things can dry out. Then I call the landlord and ask if he's aware that his house fills with water when it rains heavily. Amazing that no one noticed. The last tenants (not stupid but not seeming to possess stellar intellect either) actually had one girl living downstairs in the flooding room. Don't tell me she didn't notice. I refuse to believe any human is that unobservant.
So yeah. Things are going okay so far. I'm up way too late, but I guess this is what happens when I don't have Brian around to encourage retiring at reasonable hours. My bed is going to be all cold and empty and I don't wanna go...
