So I'm still RPing. The internet moves on, etcetera. Things are still happening, and that's always nice.

Well, things are slowing down a bit for me, RP-wise. At least on the internet. This is a good thing, because honestly I should really be concentrating this semester on finishing my thesis, resume, and job search thingies. I also need to get my driver's license to drag myself out of the realm of Pathetic Internet Kid.

Still... a lot of good things going on. No Time for Arguing! Head for the Showdown! is still going, which is nice to see for a Second-Gen RP. I'd be happier if it went a little faster than it is, but people are busy. Not everyone's had a month of vacation like I've had, so other stuff comes first.

Zea's not doing so well in that thread. Having a bit of a religious conflict of interest. Problem for her is that she's not sure what service to the god of death is going to entail for her in the future, even if she's happy and comfortable with it now. She's doing good things and helping the universe click along in an orderly fashion, but she feels like she should be ready to make a lot of sacrifices that she just isn't ready for. The one that's lately gotten under her skin is the possibility that she might need to end the life of a person she cares about as part of some greater plan. She's not sure whether or not she'd be able to do it, but the chance of it is high enough that she doesn't feel as if her loved ones are safe around her. She's alienated her boyfriend and planned to leave the city where she'd been living for a year. Some of her friends have gone with her to see the Netherworld and find out if it's all it's cracked up to be, and her father showed up to tag along. The two barely know each other, but he doesn't want to see her disappear to another plane before he's got the chance.

There's also The Planewalkers' Journies. Here I'm playing Joss, even though I didn't pop in until the ninth or tenth page. He hasn't gotten a chance to do much, but I'm enjoying the chance to play him on a board. One thing I always dislike when I see it in a child character is this tendency to reduce the mind of a child to poor grammar and a need for constant reassurance. Joss is a hopeful, ambitious, swaggering would-be-hero. The fun of him for me (and you had to expect this) is that he can bring out a lot of my own experiences as a child. There's something hilariously offbeat about a child whose intellect is far ahead of his maturity or experience. He's a smart kid, and he has definite ideas about how things should and shouldn't happen, but he's not always perfectly in step with reality. This is easier to show in board posts, because most of what he says and does looks relatively normal. It's his reasoning in getting there that can be a little odd.

Not a whole lot to say about Belelmund: The Folly of Sitanest. We've had a lot of stalls due to people vanishing frequently for short spans, and it's hard to stay motivated with it. My character had a one month gap in posting due to general "not being where the action is" syndrome, and we had another when a player had some difficulties with internet access. This thread's just been a hard one for me. Dan, the character Myrnal is interacting with most heavily, has a lot of great posts, but it's hard to justify putting any effort into a post when all I'm going to get in reply is a one- or two-liner. Perhaps that'll improve when the thread gets going and the other players are feeling more motivated, but if it doesn't, I'm going to get frustrated.

Day before yesterday Brian started up A Taste of Paradise, which promises to be fucking brilliant (even if we've been dropping some staggeringly-long posts at the start). A lot of it centers around Tassi and Darin, which is a good thing for us. They're two of our Gaeran characters who've gotten the least exposure, which is really unfortunate. Darin's such a little sweetheart, and Tassi's simultaneously the most bizarre and most ordinary of my characters. On the one hand, she's got that reincarnation issue, compounded with growing up an adult woman in a child's body. One the other, she's a healer and a drinker and has a nice boyfriend whom she loves. She works every day and delivers babies or sets broken bones or whatever needs to be done, and then she goes home to Darin and maybe they go eat dinner someplace. This blessedly-quiet life is about to be broken up rather terribly, and I'm thrilled to write it with Brian.

On Chaos Theory I'm also in an RP thread. This time it's with my Sith incarnation of Shakti. The thread is Sith Behaving Badly, and began with some drama brewing on the horizon between her and her apprentice. Then a Jedi came along, found out they were Sith, and took it upon himself to save the universe from them. This one's gone hilariously out of control for all the characters involved, and I think Shakti and Steph are the only two people really enjoying it.

Then there's the Mando forum. I'm an administrator on this forum mainly because I was one of a couple of people with a character connected to the Mando'ade who actually had the initiative to.... do things. The exception here is obviously Deija, who took care of all our graphics despite not playing a Mando'ad. Anyway.... this forum was started when we left TGC because frankly a huge percentage of our faction's active posters had been banned in the debacle back in December. We needed a place to go to communicate and to play while we found our feet elsewhere.

There's only one RP thread on this forum, and it's one that started on TGU. The Gathering was intended to be a great big fun meeting to celebrate the successes of the new Mandalore, and I had plans to eventually hijack it for the sake of some plottiness with Alema (who by now has been gone for at least a month, IC). The thread eventually petered out and stalled, as many threads tend to do with these guys.

Unfortunately, I was hinging something rather important on the conclusion of this thread. See, Alema is an imperial prisoner at the moment, and her "date" to this event is an officer coming to ensure that she fulfils her end of a rather nasty bargain. She's there to broker an alliance between the Empire and the Mandalorians, and she's got enough clout with the Mandalore to make it happen. The consequences of failure are pretty grave for her and for her people, so it promised to be good.

However, the Mandalore's player is dealing with a pressing personal crisis (and when I say crisis, please don't assume I'm exaggerating in the slightest), so expecting him to post is kind of out of the question. I can't exactly hound him about it when he's got other things that really really (really) need to come first.

What this means is that, through no real fault of anyone's, Alema is stuck. Now, I feel like she's one of the best characters I've ever put together, and I've gotten a lot done with her in the past several months. That doesn't matter, though. What matters is that until this is resolved, there's nowhere I can go with her. Ordinarily I could just play her in other threads, but this is one of this big character-affecting things that can't just be skipped. At this point I'm faced with the prospect of waiting for another two months for something to happen with her story... or just retiring her.

I'd hate to do it, and the thought makes me very sad, but here's the thing. I can't go any further without help from people who either can't give it or have just plain lost interest. It also wouldn't really matter to anyone if she disappeared IC, since when I left TGC, she'd already been away from her friends for weeks. As far as they know she went on leave to Velusia, and as far as they'll learn, she's just... gone. The choice I had at that point was to have her story continue in some other way, or just to let her die. Happens to imperial prisoners all the time. Xenomorphs disappear and they're never found. Her friends already have every reason to assume she's dead and most of them have moved on without the slightest hitch. Maybe I'll let it happen. Changes little.

On Hidden Realms, things have mercifully been better. I'm GMing the Mad Science thread, mainly for my guildmembers but also for anyone who knows Elhadron. Some unexpected drama cropped up IC, and it's made the thread a blast for the past several pages. It's already much longer than I'd anticipated, so it's a good thing I hadn't planned anything too grand for this one. Might have taken forever!

The Price of Redemption has been slow for a very long time now, but I've contacted another player of a pirate character who may be able to come shake things up a bit. I'm trying not to lose my affection for playing Myrnal, since everyone needs to have their superduper Mary Sue whom they love despite all the cheesiness. Myrnal's a ridiculous woman anyway, and a woman that angsty can only be comic relief. Thankfully she's got Hakaril there to ensure that she's thoroughly silly in her glorious brooding sulks.

So there's the news. A lot of good, some hangups, and only one thing really bothersome. Overall I have nothing to complain about, but sometimes I get preoccupied with the potential loss of my current favorite character. Oh, well. At the risk of waxing melodramatic, if Alema disappears it won't matter to anyone but me.

So basically - Joss is played a bit as if he were short, with spiky blond hair, in a red striped shirt? =D

I'm missing a reference here.

Hint: Said spiky-haired child carries a stuffed tiger with him.

Ah. More things exploding, as a rule. And more bizarre mismatched honor codes.

But yeah. Joss'd hang out with him.

If that's 'slowing down', then it's still quite a bit. I'm only running two characters in three threads (with two more pending), and I'm just about at my limit. You're running half a dozen characters in... what? Eight, nine threads? That's a lot of writing.

Well, not all of these threads are going at a pace that facilitates... y'know. Caring. The only thing I'm doing right now that I'm really enthused about is this thing with Brian. Hopefully my recent luck with getting people to stick around will not apply with him, since I know right well he's as excited as I am.

Again. This is my hope. Not sure yet what to do about a couple of the other threads.

You make my RP load look pathetic, you know that?
