I don't think any religion is essentially patriarchal (omg feminist jargon someone shoot me), since there are plenty of goddess-centered traditions that are just as misogynist as Christianity can be. However, there's a definite emphasis on women as childrearing machines (at least in what fundies like to call "traditional" marriage (http://virginia-fell.livejournal.com/191544.html)) who're unqualified to be in charge of themselves. That's completely unacceptable, whether you're a fringe whacko unrepresentative of moderate Christianity or not.
So yeah. Just because they're Christian and you're Christian doesn't mean you need to leap to their defense, or that you should. In fact, it becomes more important for moderate Christians to denounce the misogynist theocrats in their midst, because otherwise you run the risk of having them representing you whether you want them to or not.
