I get annoyed when I'm told that by condemning the action of fundamentalist theocrats I am attacking the whole of Christianity. I don't need to spare them just because you don't like to hear what some fringe members of your religion are doing.
So let me make this clear. I didn't attack Christianity by calling fundamentalists misogynists, and I didn't attack Christianity by referring specifically to fundamentalists in my posts. I've demonstrated that I know what a fundamentalist is, and I think that I'm actually being more fair to mention this specific Christian perspective by name rather than saying, "Christians are keepin' womyn DOWN, GUYZ OMG! FEED THEM TO LIONS THEY HATE TEH WOMYNZ." Consequently, you had no reason to post that "quit pickin' on Christians" line in my journal, because I wasn't picking on all Christians. The only reason you could possibly interpret my entry that way is if you were already looking for a reason to be upset, and a reason to defend your faith.
It doesn't need it. Your faith isn't under attack here. Misogyny is under attack, and if fundamentalists Christians are the culprits today I am going to mention them. If you don't want fundamentalists to represent all Christianity, don't treat attacks on fundamentalist Christian misogyny as attacks on Christianity as a whole. You're the one using fundamentalists as the poster child for Christians. Not me. I mentioned them specifically so that there could be no confusion that I am incriminating the entire religion (except by people who get off on defending their faith even when it's plainly unnecessary).
Again. Your religion isn't under attack here. If you're looking to satisfy your craving for righteous battle against the maligners of your faith, why don't you go bother someone who's actually maligning your faith? Meanwhile, the grownups here are trying to talk about protecting women's access to health care, and the people who want to deny it. All of the people who want to deny it. Even when they happen to identify as Christian.
