I have got to be in Rejoice! next year. This was absolutely fabulous. I can't believe how much I love singing in large groups. I don't like singing by myself because it makes me nervous, but if I'm in tune I can't hear myself or pick myself out of the general soprano part. As a result it sounds like the whole section's collective voice is coming out of my mouth. That's a wonderful feeling because it makes me feel like my voice is this enormous and beautiful thing.
It's also really fun to have people express shock that I sing. This is what happened when I was in Footloose in high school. The general reaction was, "WTF music?"
We went to my professor's house after Rejoice! and had a big ol' anthropology hang-out, and it was just awesome as usual. Yay for my favorite people!
And one thing just for my ego and nothing else:
We had a wonderful man play the violin with us for Silent Night, and after the show I went to thank him for playing with us, because I was right in the front row and loved being able to be up there with him while he was playing. He thanked me and told me, "It's wonderful to watch you sing; you sing with such energy."
Pardon me while I have a fangirl episode of great girly squealing.
It meant a lot to be complimented by him, because he really was amazing.
Also, Joy to the World and that damned high note! That, my friends, is joy. Hearing your voice do something rediculous and ECHO off the walls with only a few other soprani who are managing to pull it off.
Anyway. I have a paper to write and diplomacy to mastermind, so that's enough time for my own ego-stroking.
