Writer's Block: Doctor Who?
Jan. 7th, 2009 10:52 pm[Error: unknown template qotd] I'm one of those people who'd have loved to see one of the black actors who were in the running chosen to play the Doctor. I'm sure that they're spot on with Matt Smith (since I even had my doubts about Tennant at first, and they were completely unfounded), and that he's going to be great. It's just... come on! The Doctor said he's always wanted to be ginger. How much more exciting would it be to regenerate with a different ethnicity entirely? It's no more ridiculously unrealistic than... well, I can't even pick one thing. If you watch Dr. Who, you have to admit it'd be at least as plausible as *insert all plotlines*.
I just think it'd have been nice to have more acknowledgment that non-white folk will survive to the future. Dr. Who did super awesome shit by having my beloved Martha Jones as a companion, and that's fantastic. So perhaps we'll get to see them break the mold a little further with future regenerations. (And yes, I realize he's only supposed to have a limited number and he's about used them up, but the writers will think of some plot device to get around that.)
